The Board was enacted under the provision of United Provinces Legislative Council Act. This was headquartered in Allahabad. It was this Board which had the credit of introducing plus two system education system in India for the first time. In 1923 it conducted the first exam of plus two. Before 1923 it was the Allahabad University which conducted both the High school education 10th and Intermediate Examination of the 12th. At present the Board is the largest in the world functioning for conducting academic activities. This scenario itself displays us the bulk of students it had to accommodate.

Thus regional authorities started functioning from Allahabad (1987), Meerut (1973), Bareilly (1981) and Varanasi (1978). It was the regional secretaries who control each of these regional centers. These regional centers are still under the control of the executive head the secretary of Allahabad.

Though ICSE and CBSE syllabus are available in the State of Uttar Pradesh most of the schools seek the recognition of U.P. Board of High School and Intermediate Education. At present nearly 9121 schools are under the control of UP Board. The eligibility for appearing in the exam schedule of Xth for regular students are 87% of attendance is a must, the student must have completed 14 years by the beginning of the month of the exam, and the fee structure is Rs 150 for regular candidates and for private candidates it is Rs 500.

The examination was conducted in two shifts one was conducted from 7:30 am to 10:45am and the next batch from 2:00pm to 5:15pm. According to the records about 20, 56,678 candidates appeared for the Xth exam which displayed an increase in the number of students than the previous exam to about 5, 47,694. About 10,000 examination centers were prepared to conduct the intermediate exam smoothly. Moreover the students were given coded answer sheets which was the unanimous decision by the UP Board to avoid any malpractices.

This supplementary exam was conducted in the month of June and the results were announced within few days. The results were published in the official website of UP Board namely upresults.nic.in. Through sms on mobile phone the results were made available to the students.
